On Monday night, Toronto’s Pedlar Press invites readers interested in mining the dark materials of the collective unconscious to gather for a unique event. Pedlar authors Martha Baillie, Ronna Bloom, Jason Hrivnak, Jaqueline Larson, Jacob Wren, and Souvankham Thammavongsa will be reading from and commenting on works by Carl Jung that explore the Swiss psychiatrist’s “theories of individuation and the creation of consciousness.” Titled “Dark Valentines Monday,” the event takes place at Theatre of One (581 Markham Street, 2nd floor, 7:30 p.m., FREE).
On Tuesday, the Artbar Poetry Series at Clinton’s (693 Bloor Street West) celebrates Black History Month with readings by Leviathan, Unblind, J Nichole Noel, Isiri Makeba, and Nisa Lawson. The event is free and begins at 8 p.m. The Commensal vegetarian restaurant (655 Bay Street) hosts the monthly Toronto Reading Series event, with tonight’s event focusing on personal finance. Authors John Lawrence Reynolds (The Skeptical Investor), John Stephenson (Shell Shocked), and David Trahair (Enough Bull) will pool their financial expertise to put you on the road to personal economic recovery (7 p.m., $5).
Popular travel writers Glenn Dixon, Deirdre Kelly, and Chuck Thompson gather for the bi-annual Ben McNally Travellers Series reading at Authors at Harbourfront Centre (235 Queens Quay West) on Wednesday. Author and and Toronto Star crime writer Peter Edwards launches his new book, The Bandido Massacre: A True Story of Bikers, Brotherhood and Betrayal, at the Prohibition Restaurant & Bar (696 Queen Street East) on Thursday night. The events starts at 7 p.m. and is free.
