Natalie Portman signed on to star in the movie adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and Boing Boing is giving away fifteen laptops if you re-write a famous literary scene in a different writing style. Ah, that reminds me of the VH1 television show Cover Wars. Does anyone else remember that? Anyone?
Continuing with the mash-up theme, this group of alternate media imagined as classic book covers is fascinating.
Indigo rebrands its Shortcovers ebook initiative as Kobo. Indigo CTO Micheal Serbinis explains that “Kobo is an anagram of the word ‘book’ and we think that it is a name that will appeal to readers around the world….plus we think it’s a catchy name!” This Books@Torontoist editor isn’t a fan, but, hey, it’s no worse than Nook.
Are you speed reading this? The Guardian argues that you can’t really speed read literature, as doing so means you miss the “aesthetic pleasure” derived from reading great authors.
