Anyone whose ever asked him or herself Mike Wallace’s famous question of Jack Kerouac in 1958 – “What is the Beat Generation?” – should check out David Meltzer, one of the last Beat Generation writers still standing and still writing. Meltzer, a veteran of the San Francisco poetry world has read at the Jazz Cellar, worked with Jack Spicer and Robert Duncan, recorded for Vanguard Records in the late Sixties Hippie band Serpent Power (think the Velvet Underground as a Jug Band) and published over 40 books of poems. Better still, Meltzer reads with Terri Carrion, Michael Rothenberg, Jim Christy and Robert Priest at This Ain’t the Rosedale Library tonight in Kensington Market at 8 pm.
